As a native of Barbados, I was always aware of how beautiful but small my 21-mile-long island was. Envisioning a path to travel the world and have meaningful conversations became clearer when I became a national rugby player and began competing internationally. It showed me how vast the world is and how powerful connection can be.
After earning degrees in Economics and Accounting and spending three months working in the U.S., I decided to change course. I became deeply interested in human development—what it truly means to live a full life while being of service to others.
That conviction led me to sell everything I owned and fly to Iowa to meet with a CEO about a job that didn’t yet exist or have funding. A year later, I moved there to direct a human development program that raised over $400,000 and positively impacted more than 1,500 lives. It was the kind of work that confirmed I was on the right path.
After seven incredible years in Iowa, I set off across Europe for a year—from Finland through Iceland and down to Spain—interviewing over 100 people about what progress and fulfillment mean to them. Those conversations became the foundation for two TEDx Talks and the launch of my professional speaking career, where I help people and teams incrementally improve, navigate uncertainty, and find fulfillment along the way.
These experiences, from sports to service and island roots to global insights, have shaped my belief that progress isn’t about speed or comparison but about direction and meaning.
My concepts on the Personal Development Cycle have been refined and applied with thousands of individuals across three continents. This ensures that they are not a one-size-fits-all approach but rather adaptable to most situations and circumstances, whether starting from the beginning or in the middle of their worthy pursuits.
